Paying Dues to the Zombies

Dead Era considers its zombies the focal-point of the brand. Anyone who has spoken to a Dead Era employee knows how much our customer satisfaction is stressed. In fact, I can tell you right now that if it wasn’t for the dedicated support of the fans spreading the infection, Dead Era probably wouldn’t be here.

From the ground up, Dead Era was conceptualized with the customers in mind. When we were just a small word on a story-board we didn’t hold weight. It wasn’t until the idea of the Dead Era infection was fleshed out that we truly realized the significance of what we had discovered. In order for us to be successful, and to have the value that we’ve always wanted to have, we have to pay dues, pay tribute, and keep emphasizing the value of the people that trust us with their time, money, and support.

For this purpose, we’re going to spotlight a few people that have held it down for Dead Era, and supported us from the ground up! Without people like this, we wouldn’t get to do what we love everyday!

Here’s a few photos of the people representing Dead Era from all around the world!

Thank you, everyone for supporting the brand, and for making our dreams possible!

Portrero Del Sol

Here’s a few shots we got this past weekend at Portrero Del Sol skatepark. Sean Zaidi was taking a few shots for a photography project. We came along for the ride and spread the infection gratuitously in the Mission.

Sean isn’t one of our riders, but he’s our BMX team manager. You’ll be seeing more shots of our riders in the days to come.

This park has a really unique vibe. People are friendly which is a refreshing change from DTLA. How could you not be in a good mood if this is the scenery?

The highlight of the day was watching the women rip the bowl.

If you’re ever in San Francisco, don’t forget to go check out Portrero Del Sol. It’s a dope place to skate and people watch. Good vibes!

It’s time for a fresh start.

Launching a new brand is much like writing a book. The difference is that the storyline is very much out of our hands, and in the hands of the reader. Luckily for us, the reader has chosen to assist us in developing a beautiful story. It’s a story about a zombie from Los Angeles who started a brand as a means of channeling his true passion and avoiding being shoved into the mold that was crafted for him.

Dead Era has grown immensely in the last three months. Each step of the journey has been essential to our development. We’ve succeeded in some ways, and failed in others, but we are wise. We entered this project with the intention of bringing brands back to the people while restoring the raw and unrefined. This is our main mission, and in many ways we are doing better than we had ever expected.

Our success thus far has been a testament to a few things. It shows that you feel the same way we do. Every time you pick up your credit card to make a purchase, or visit our website, you are voting. You are voting to pursue and support the path less travelled, and committing to at least a moment of the analog. For us, this is not just a brand or a business, this is a lifestyle. Your support solidifies the issue. It shows that many of you are frustrated with the way things are going — you are frustrated that life has become a grind, or that every day is the same.

We’re here to urge you towards spontaneity and risk. We’re here to promote the road less travelled. We’re here to assist in your reanimation. We won’t always succeed, but we will always strive to make our mission come true. These next few months you will begin to hone in on our true colors. We hope that you will have an open mind. We hope that you will be willing to come along for the ride into the “good old times” that many fear are long dead. They’re just hiding.

END OF DAZE

I’m not a superstitious zombie, but a cautious one. We’ve lived a long, prosperous, but equally damaging life. Some clocks have already ticked past midnight on December 21st, a day that has been sensationalized by the media, and taken far out of proportions for the last six or seven years. Why are we so obsessed with the end of days?

Apocalypse is erotic to a generation without analog life. The generation of zombies that sit inside every day connecting through buffers yearn for the day that they can have an opportunity to be forced into a brave new world. We know… We are these zombies.

We fantasize and prepare for the day that civilization crumbles, because we want the opportunity to start anew. We want to return to a life of necessities, free from the restraints and vices of todays society. Our bane is that we cannot live this analog lifestyle without a major event — so, we create many. We create zombie apocalypse scenarios and movies. We create “2012″ with John Cusack… And everybody goes to watch them.

COASTING THROUGH LIFE

“Things are moving fast.”

Really?  With those words, or even the very thought, we huddle in a concrete fallout shelter and wait for the Understatement Police with their burrowing robot badgers, zip-tie handcuffs and brain erasers to come calling.

Truth is, things are hauling ass.  A tide of digits and bits and bytes with dangerous undercurrent is chewing up the beach.  Red flags are flying.  The lifeguards have gone home to watch “Baywatch” on VHS.  Why not?  At least you can rewind.  That’s a unique feature that doesn’t come with life.

Well, aren’t we all yearning for someone who can turn on a little stopping power?”   Firesign Theater

Do it.  Kick back on the pedals, throw your hips and lay a mean brodie.  Make a mark.  Lay some rubber.  This ain’t graphical user interface.  This ain’t MP3.  It’s ancient mechanical physics from the Dead Era.

FINITE.

Building a brand that focuses on the mission of restoring culture through art, clothing, and lifestyle means providing a product that is fresh. Because of this, we refuse to reprint any t-shirts with exception of logo-based tees. Any art-based clothing item that you see on our website will never be reprinted, even if it promises to be wickedly successful for us.

That said, we don’t order massive quantities of clothing–we want our customers, particularly the customers that have flocked to our store and blog in the last month to have something that not many other people in the world have… Something to share with one another.

We’ve always loved the feeling of opening a package in the mail, and having it be an experience that lasts. This is what we intend to bring to you. So, enjoy your clothing, and know that anything purchased is endangered, or will be extinct in the future. It’s more fun for everyone that way.

OPENING UP

Before we begin on our mission, we have to do what any kind human being would do when approaching a stranger. We’re going to introduce ourselves. It is important that you know who we are so that you can know where we are coming from. Hopefully, by now, if you are interested in our brand, you have perused the “Our Story” page and generated a simple feel for what we stand for. However, “Our Story” could not be fully encompassed by an illustration, in fact it builds on itself every day.

First, I will introduce myself: Morty (pictured above). I’m a zombie, much like any of you, and I have one purpose. My cause, similar to anyone lucky enough to be given the opportunity of life, is to…  live. That being said, I have spent a large portion of my early years dead. But no longer. No, we’ve all traveled too far now and we’ve agreed to abandon the conventional and routine ways. Our choice is to live, not simply exist, boxed in the belly of the beast. However, make no mistake, we are ALL in the belly of the beast.  We will plot our escape together.

IT’S ALIVE!

The day is finally here. Some of you may have been waiting for this day for 2 months, but we’ve been waiting for it for 3 years. It’s been a good wait… A healthy wait… To prepare to do something bigger than us… To provide a product that doesn’t suck, that carries meaning into a world of irrelevancies… To fight the influence of artificiality, and restore culture as much as we can to a generation that leaves it at the gate.

We don’t have false dreams of changing the world, but what we do have is a pledge to make an impact on our customers, our followers, our… zombies. After all, we are all zombies infected with the influence of popular society, reality television, constant satellite social interaction. We have no ambition to cure you… We have a drive to feed you what you need and crave–the flesh of substance, knowledge, and culture…

What you can expect from us is unfiltered life with no propaganda. In fact, we encourage you to vote with your wallet. Our job is to make an impact on you whether you be the purchaser, the reader, the doubter, or the evangelist. The objective is not to usurp your pocketbooks, but rather address a longing in your heart for raw life. We are confident that we can meet this goal, and provide you with superior products, service, and entertainment.
